Chapter 01 — Clarksville Street, Paris, TX

Home health · Paris, Texas

The first thirty days home are the ones that count.

Nurses and therapists who come to the house after a hospital stay, a new diagnosis or a fall, from Honey Grove to Clarksville. Medicare-certified, and part of Lamar County since 1987.

Day one

Somebody rings the doorbell the day after you get home.

When someone lands back in the hospital a few weeks after coming home, it usually starts with something small: a missed pill, a little swelling, a fall on the way to the bathroom at night. So we come early. Your nurse arrives within a day or two of discharge, sits down at the kitchen table and goes through everything the hospital sent home with you.

Then we build the next four weeks around you: nursing visits, therapy, a bath aide if you need one, and a phone number that a real nurse answers at two in the morning. Jeanette Pruitt started the agency in 1987 with three nurses and a station wagon. We still work that way, just with more nurses.

How the month went

Mama came home from Dallas after her bypass on a Thursday. Their nurse was in her living room Friday at ten with a blood pressure cuff and a lot of patience.
Teresa H.Daughter of a patient, Paris
I live in Honey Grove and figured nobody would drive that far twice a week. The therapist did, all six weeks, and I'm walking without the cane.
Leon B.Physical therapy patient, 2025
The night nurse talked me through Daddy's breathing at 3 a.m. and kept us out of the emergency room. I'll never forget her voice on that phone.
Crystal W.Daughter of a patient, Detroit
They taught me to do my own insulin and then they let me go. That's the whole point, isn't it?

Good to know

Questions, answered

Who qualifies for home health?

Medicare covers home health for patients who are homebound, need part-time skilled nursing or therapy, and have a doctor's plan of care, including a recent face-to-face visit with a doctor or nurse practitioner. Most Medicare Advantage plans and Texas Medicaid also cover it.

Is there a copay?

Original Medicare pays for covered home health visits in full. Medical equipment such as a walker or shower chair usually has a 20% coinsurance. Advantage plans vary, and we check yours before the first visit.

How fast can you start?

Most first visits happen within 48 hours of the referral, and often the day after discharge.

Can my family be there for visits?

Please be. We teach family caregivers right alongside the patient, and we schedule around work hours when we can.

What happens after the thirty days?

Many patients finish in four to six weeks. If you still qualify, your doctor can renew the plan for another sixty-day period.
