Letter from the director

A fishing town, a college town, and now your town.

Durant has a little of everything: Southeastern's games on Saturday, the Magnolia Festival in June, and a lake big enough that you can find a quiet cove on the Fourth of July. The Shoreline sits right in the middle of it, on the north side of town where the road runs out at the water.

Our residents are retired teachers, ranchers, nurses and a couple of former fishing guides who still won't tell anybody where the stripers are. We take care of the house, the meals and the maintenance so they can spend their days on the things they moved here for.

Letters to the editor

Dad was lonely in that big house after Mom died. Now he swims every morning, has a standing dominoes game and calls us on Sundays with more news than we have.

We sold the boat and rented a slip here instead. Same lake, none of the work. I've caught more fish in two years than in the ten before.
Lloyd and Bev P.Residents since 2022
I worried Mom would feel cut off out by the lake. She has a book club, a swim buddy and a better social calendar than mine. I have to text ahead before I visit.

Is the Shoreline assisted living?

No. We're independent living, for people who manage their own daily care. If you need help later, licensed home care agencies can visit you here, and we'll help you find one.

Is there an entrance fee?

No. Rent is month to month after your first year, with a 60-day notice to move out.

Can I keep my boat?

Yes, if a slip is open. We have 24 private slips and a short waiting list in summer.
