Good to know
Reader questions
What is an adult day center?
A daytime place for older adults who live at home but should not spend the day alone. Members get care, meals and company, and go home in the afternoon.
Who is a good fit?
Adults living with memory loss, recovering from a stroke or fall, needing help with medicines, or isolated at home. Theresa visits before the first day.
How do families pay?
Privately by the day, or through VA benefits, long-term care insurance and Kansas Medicaid waiver programs for those who qualify. Medicare generally does not cover adult day. We'll help you check.
How far does the van go?
All of Ellis County, including Victoria, Ellis and Schoenchen. Ask about Russell and Rooks counties.
Is a nurse there all day?
Yes, every hour we are open.
How many days does Dad have to come?
Two days a week at least, so he gets to know his table. Most families choose three.
What about members with dementia?
They spend part of the day in smaller groups with staff trained in dementia care, and join the great room for meals and music.
Can Mom get a shower here?
Yes. We have a roll-in shower suite and trained aides.
What if there's a blizzard?
We follow the school district. If Hays schools close, so do we, and we call every family by 6 a.m.
What happens in an emergency?
Our nurse responds right away. We call 911 first if needed, then you.
Can we try a day?
Yes. The first day is free, noon dinner and the van included.

The coffee's on at nine-thirty.
Bring your mother or your dad for a free day, noon dinner and the van included. Call or text Theresa to pick a date.
