The short version

You plan the move. We plan for everything after it.

Most people who call us have just helped a parent through a hard move: a fall, a hospital stay, a house that got too big, then a scramble for an open bed somewhere. They call because they don't want to put their own kids through it. That's what a life plan community is for.

At Bluemont Hill you move into a cottage or apartment while you're independent. If you ever need assisted living, memory care or skilled nursing, it's down the hall or across the green, with residents first in line. Retired K-State faculty, Fort Riley families and farmers from three counties already live here. The Wildcats are on every television in the Commons on Saturdays.

Sample family reviews

In their words

I taught soil science for thirty-one years. I made a spreadsheet of every option in Riley County. This was the only one that showed me their numbers before I asked.
Dale K.Resident since 2021
Dad had a stroke eighteen months after they moved in. He did his rehab in the Health Center and Mom walked over from the cottage twice a day. Nobody had to find anything in a hurry.
Erin W.Daughter of residents
We were Army for twenty-six years and moved fourteen times. This is the last one. We picked it so our kids would never have to pick one for us.
Col. Ray and Linda T.Residents since 2019

Good to know

Questions, answered

What is a life plan community?

A campus with independent living plus assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing, so you can stay as your needs change. Residents who move in independently get priority for the higher levels of care.

What's the difference between the entrance-fee and rental plans?

The entrance-fee plan asks for a one-time fee at move-in, part of which may be refundable depending on the plan you choose, and keeps your monthly fee more predictable if you need more care later. The rental plan has no entrance fee; you pay the going rate for each level of care. We'll compare both for your situation in writing.

Does Medicare pay for any of this?

Medicare does not pay for independent or assisted living or long-term custodial care. Original Medicare Part A can cover short-term skilled nursing and rehab in our Health Center after a qualifying inpatient hospital stay.

Is there a waiting list?

For some cottage floor plans, yes. A refundable deposit puts you on the list without committing you to a move date.

Can I keep my car? My dog?

Yes and yes. Cottages have attached garages, apartments have covered parking, and the prairie trail sees more dogs than people most mornings.
