Assisted living · Ardmore, Oklahoma

Somebody's always got a story going.

Fifty-two apartments under old post oaks in northwest Ardmore, with caregivers awake all night and a calendar full enough that people complain they can't fit it all in.

The Carter Oaks scrapbook

Twenty years of Tuesdays worth remembering.

We opened in 2004 with eighteen residents and a borrowed van. Two decades later the van is ours, there's a raised garden that out-produces most backyards in Carter County, and the Friday domino game has its own trophy, a bowling pin someone spray-painted gold in 2011.

The care is the steady part underneath. A nurse oversees every care plan and medication, caregivers are awake and walking the halls all night, and the same faces show up shift after shift. That steadiness is what lets everything else be fun.

Families talking

Mama hadn't touched a paintbrush since 1978. Last month she sold a watercolor at the Christmas bazaar for twelve dollars and she is insufferable about it.
Cheryl D.Daughter of a resident
Daddy and two other retired roughnecks have taken over the garden. They argue about tomato cages every morning. He's happier than he's been in years.
Wes T.Son of a resident
Tasha caught a urinary infection in Mom before she was really sick. She called me, called the doctor, and had the prescription filled by supper.
Angela R.Daughter of a resident
I came for the help with my pills. I stayed for the dominoes. Don't tell my kids.
Lloyd P.Resident since 2020
They told us exactly what Dad's care level would cost and why, line by line. No surprises in two years.
