Questions about a rehab stay

How long is a typical rehab stay?

Most of our patients go home in two to three weeks. Your case manager sets a target date in the first 48 hours.

Does Medicare pay for rehab?

Medicare Part A can cover skilled rehab after a qualifying inpatient hospital stay of at least three days: the first 20 days in full, then a daily coinsurance through day 100 while you still need skilled care.

What about Medicare Advantage?

We work with most Medicare Advantage plans. Many require prior approval, which our admissions team handles with the hospital.

What is the goal board?

A whiteboard in your suite with three goals you choose with your therapist. The whole team reviews it every morning.

Can I choose Coggin Avenue before surgery?

Yes. Tour ahead of time and tell your surgeon and the hospital case manager.

How much therapy will I get?

Most patients have therapy five to six days a week, according to their plan of care.

Do you work with amputees?

Yes. Our therapists train patients with new prosthetics and coordinate with their prosthetist.

Is every suite private?

Yes, all 48, with private baths.

Can family visit?

Any time. Join a therapy session to learn how to help at home.

What should I bring?

Exercise clothes, supportive shoes with backs, glasses, hearing aids and a medication list.

Will I see a doctor?

Yes. Our medical director and nurse practitioners see patients several times a week.

Do you handle IV antibiotics?

Yes, plus IV fluids and PICC care.

What if I can't go home safely?

We'll talk early about home health, assisted living or our long-term skilled nursing hall.

Can I keep training after I go home?

Yes. Many patients continue with us as outpatients.

Will someone call after discharge?

A nurse calls within 48 hours of going home.

Do you take Medicaid?

Texas Medicaid covers long-term skilled nursing for those who qualify. Our business office can help.

Do you have a chaplain?

Yes, for any patient who asks, of any faith or none.

How do I get admitted?

Tell your hospital case manager you'd like Coggin Avenue, or call our admissions line seven days a week.
