Why the river

We built where people already liked to sit.

Before there was a building here, there was a gravel bar where Kerrville families came to fish, wade and watch the light go gold on the limestone. When we opened in 2001, we put the dining room, the library and every porch on that side of the property. Twenty-some years later, the gravel bar is still the most popular spot in the place.

Residents here are retired ranchers, teachers, two former park rangers and a surprising number of painters. They come for the river and the Hill Country quiet, and they stay because the day takes care of itself: breakfast when you want it, a van into town, and neighbors who will save you a seat on the porch.

Sample family reviews

From the porch

Daddy fished the Guadalupe his whole life. Now he fishes it from a dock forty steps from his front door, and he's happier than he's been in years.

I took up painting at eighty-one. My river paintings are hanging in the dining room, which my children find hilarious.
Margaret D.Resident since 2020
We toured six places from Boerne to Fredericksburg. This was the only one where a resident stopped us in the hall to brag about supper.
Tom and Linda W.Residents since 2022
Mom had a fall last spring. Danielle called me within the hour, had a home health agency lined up the next day, and Mom never had to leave her apartment.
Javier R.Son of a resident
The porch, the river, the people. In that order, some days. Other days it's the cobbler.
Harlan B.Resident since 2017
