Skilled nursing & rehab · Amarillo, Texas
A 112-bed nursing and rehab center in southwest Amarillo. Therapy seven days a week, an RN on every shift, and nobody here talks to you in brochure.
How we work
When families tour Highline, Terrence walks them through three things before he shows them a single room: what Medicare will and won't pay, what a typical day of therapy looks like, and what happens if things don't go to plan. People tell us it's the first honest conversation they've had since the hospital.
The rest of what we do is just as plain. Same nurses on the same halls. A therapy gym open seven days a week, because a hip doesn't take Sundays off. A dining room that serves green chile stew on Thursdays. And a discharge planner who starts on day one, so going home isn't a scramble on day nineteen.

Sample family reviews
Terrence told me on the tour exactly when Medicare would stop paying and what it would cost after. Nobody else did. That's why we picked Highline.
New knee on a Tuesday, here on Thursday, home in seventeen days. Amara's team worked me hard and I'm glad they did.
My mother has lived here five years. The aides know she wants her coffee black and her curtains open. Little things, every single day.
Dad came in with a wound that wouldn't close. Six weeks of their wound nurse and it was gone. The hospital couldn't believe the photos.
I called at eleven at night worried about Grandpa. The charge nurse went and checked on him while I was on the phone.
They planned my discharge from the first week. When I left I had a walker, a shower chair and home health already scheduled. No scramble.
For families
The practical stuff, answered before you have to ask.
Come at 6 a.m. or 10 p.m. After nine, use the north door and the night nurse will let you in.
Rehab families are welcome in the gym. Seeing the work makes the home exercises stick.
You, the nurse, the therapist and Lydia at one table, with a written plan and a target date for home.
Call the nurses' station on your parent's hall any time. Extensions are on the card we give you at admission.
Our team

Administrator
Terrence grew up in Hereford, ran buildings in Lubbock and Midland, and came to Highline in 2017. He gives every tour he can and he answers his own phone.

Director of Nursing
Twenty years a nurse, eight of them in the cardiac unit across town. Kiana posts staffing every shift and expects to be asked about it.

Medical Director
A Panhandle internist for thirty years. He rounds here three days a week and is on call to our nurses every night.

Director of Rehabilitation
Amara runs a team of eleven therapists and keeps a whiteboard of every patient's walking distance. She likes the numbers going up.

Social Worker
Lydia handles the paperwork nobody wants to: Medicaid applications, advance directives and the family meeting that should have happened months ago.
What sets us apart

Walking, stairs, transfers and balance. Up to twice a day for most joint-replacement patients.
Medicare Part A
A planner meets you the first week and arranges equipment, home health and follow-up visits.
Included
Our nurse-to-resident ratios are posted at the front desk every shift. Ask to see them.
24/7Now hiring
Good pay, posted ratios and a boss who answers.
Visit
Rehab families can watch therapy any day. Ask at the gym desk.

We'll check your coverage, hold a rehab room for your discharge date and talk to your surgeon's office so the handoff is clean.
