Vol. 03 · Oklahoma CityThe Fall Issue
A husband and wife sharing a kiss and a glass of red wine in their apartment library

The Belle Isle issue

The second act is the one people remember.

Apartment living with a concierge, a dining room worth dressing for, and assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing upstairs, in the heart of Oklahoma City's best neighborhood.

Editor's letter

Retirement, written in the present tense.

Our residents are retired surgeons and schoolteachers, oilmen and Thunder season-ticket holders, a former state senator and a woman who designed half the houses in Crown Heights. They didn't move to The Kensington to slow down. They moved here so the house, the yard and the worry would stop competing for their time.

Everything you need is in the building: a restaurant and a bistro, a library, a saltwater pool, a fitness studio, and a care team that covers assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing on the upper floors. Everything else, Classen Curve, Penn Square, the Civic Center, is ten minutes away by our car.

Letters to the editor

I designed houses for forty years. This is the first place I've lived where somebody else worries about the roof.

Thursday night is still date night. We just take the elevator to it now.

Mother moved from her apartment to the Garden Floor last year. The same staff, the same dining room, the same hairdresser on Fridays. That continuity is everything.
Elise M.Daughter of a resident
My rehab after the knee was two floors down from my apartment. My bridge group visited every afternoon.
Hal G.Resident since 2016
We read three contracts before this one. Theirs was the only one we understood on the first read.
Don and Shirley K.Residents since 2022
The night nurse called me at midnight to tell me Dad was fine after a fall, and that the doctor had already seen him. I went back to sleep. That's the whole review.
Brian T.Son of a resident
I came for the pool. I stayed for the lecture series. Last month a retired astronaut spoke in the library.
