Registered nurse case manager
One nurse who knows your family, visits on schedule and gives you her direct line.
MedicareHospice · Corpus Christi & the Coastal Bend
Hospice nurses, aides, chaplains and social workers who come to your home anywhere around the bay, in English or Spanish, so the people you love can stay where they belong.

Who we are
Laguna Madre Hospice started in 1985 with three nurses and a borrowed office near the bayfront. Today we care for families from Port Aransas to Kingsville, and many of the people we serve are the grandchildren of our first patients.
What hasn't changed is the work: managing pain and breathlessness so your loved one is comfortable, teaching the family what to expect, and answering the phone in English or Spanish at three in the morning.

Papá wanted to see the bay one more time. The aide helped us get his wheelchair to the seawall, and he watched the sailboats until the sun went down.
The nurse who answered at 2 a.m. spoke Spanish with my mother and calmed her right down. Then she drove out anyway.
Don and two other veterans pinned my husband in our living room. He served on the Lexington. He sat up straight and saluted.
Rosie braided Abuela's hair every visit and sang her old songs. Abuela always asked if it was Rosie's day.
They had Mom's hurricane plan ready before the storm. When we evacuated to San Antonio, her oxygen and medicine were already arranged.
Fr. Ruiz gave Dad last rites and then sat with all twelve of us in the kitchen. He made us laugh with stories about Dad's old parish.
Miguel sorted out the Medicaid and the funeral plans in a week. I didn't have to make one phone call.
Dr. Salinas came to our house and explained everything slowly, twice, until we understood. We felt ready.
I put Mom's photo on their Día de los Muertos ofrenda last year. Seeing it there with all the others, I didn't feel alone.
For families
Here's what we do for the people doing the caregiving.
In English or Spanish, day or night, and a visit when needed.
Medicines, oxygen and evacuation help planned before hurricane season.
Volunteers for an afternoon, respite stays for a few nights.
Our nurses gently explain the changes that come near the end.
Insurance & payment
Most families owe nothing. Our business office checks every plan before care begins.
The Medicare hospice benefit covers the team, medicines, supplies and equipment for the hospice diagnosis, usually at no cost.
Covers hospice. If your loved one lives in a nursing home on Medicaid, room and board stays covered.
Veterans enrolled in VA health care are eligible, and many military retirees have TRICARE for Life. We coordinate both.
Most plans include hospice. We'll verify yours.
Where we care
The same team and the same benefit, in any setting.

Most patients stay in their own bed. We bring the equipment, medicines and team.

Many patients move in with a son or daughter. We care for them there and teach the whole household.

We add hospice nursing, aides, chaplain and social work to the care already in place.

We work with nursing home staff on comfort. Room and board is billed separately.

We believe the end of a life deserves the same care as the beginning. We believe families know best what home means. We believe no one should hear the hard news without someone to sit with them afterward. And we believe a good day, even a short one, is always worth fighting for.
