Good to know

Questions, answered

Is Lavender Hill independent living or assisted living?

Both, on one campus. Most residents live independently in a cottage or Farmhouse apartment. Assisted living is in the Sage House, a short covered walk away, with the same dining room and the same friends.

Is there an entrance fee?

No. Independent living is a monthly rental with a twelve-month lease and a one-time community fee. Rosa will give you a written price sheet for every floor plan.

How is assisted living priced?

By level of care. Our director of nursing completes an assessment before move-in and the monthly care fee follows from it. We review it with you every quarter and whenever needs change.

Does Medicare pay for senior living or assisted living?

No. Medicare does not cover rent, meals or personal care in senior living or assisted living. It still covers doctor visits, hospital care, therapy and most prescriptions the same way it would at home.

Does Texas Medicaid help with assisted living?

In Texas, the STAR+PLUS program can help pay for assisted living care for people who qualify medically and financially, though it does not cover room and board. Waiting lists and rules change, so Claire in our business office will walk you through it.

Can veterans get help paying?

Wartime veterans and surviving spouses who need help with daily activities may qualify for the VA Aid and Attendance pension. Claire helps families gather the paperwork.

Do I have to work on the farm?

Not at all. Plenty of residents just enjoy the view from the porch. The harvest, the garden and the market stall are there for anyone who wants them.

Is the farm accessible for walkers and wheelchairs?

The main paths, the Farmhouse, the Sage House and the river walk are paved and level. Two lavender rows have a hard-packed path wide enough for a wheelchair, and the raised beds are at waist height.

Can I bring my own furniture?

Please do. Every home is unfurnished except the respite suite, and Rosa will sketch your floor plan with your pieces before moving day.

Are pets welcome?

One dog or cat per home, with a fenced dog run behind the cottages.

Is there a nurse at night?

Yes. A licensed nurse is on duty overnight in the Sage House and responds to emergency calls from every home on campus.

How far is the nearest hospital?

Full-service hospitals in San Marcos, Fredericksburg and Kerrville are all within about an hour, and emergency services in Blanco County respond to our address. Our van runs to specialists in Austin and San Antonio.

Can family stay for meals?

Any time. Guest meals are a few dollars at lunch and supper, and Sunday supper is on us when you call by Friday.

Can family stay overnight?

Yes. The guest room above the drying barn can be booked for a few nights at a modest rate.

Do you offer short stays?

Yes. Our furnished respite suite is available from a week to a few months, with meals, housekeeping and assisted living care in a daily rate.

When is the lavender in bloom?

Usually from late May through June, depending on the spring rain. The harvest weekend is the second Saturday in June, and families are welcome to come help.

What if I need more care than assisted living provides?

We'll be honest with you early. Licensed home health and hospice agencies can serve residents here, and if skilled nursing is ever needed, we help families find the right place nearby.

Can I keep my car?

Of course. Every cottage has covered parking, and Farmhouse residents park in the barn lot.

How do I start?

Call or text the Farmhouse desk, or book a tour online. Rosa will follow up with floor plans and a price sheet the same day.

Come for lunch. Stay for the harvest.

Tours run seven days a week. Call, text or book online and Margaret or Rosa will meet you at the Farmhouse porch.
