Good to know

What families ask

What happens if something changes at night?

Call our number. A hospice nurse answers every hour, and will talk you through it or drive out. We also keep an emergency comfort kit at the house.

When should we call hospice?

When a doctor expects the illness to run its course in about six months or less, or when treatment is no longer helping. Calling to ask questions commits you to nothing.

Does Medicare pay for hospice?

Yes. The Medicare hospice benefit covers the team, medicines, equipment and supplies for the hospice diagnosis, usually with nothing owed.

Can someone stay with us at the very end?

Yes. Continuous nursing care may be available during a crisis, and trained vigil volunteers can sit with your family in the final hours.

Can we stop hospice?

Yes. Hospice is always a choice. A patient can leave hospice and return to treatment, and come back later if needed.

Call tonight. Someone's awake.

A hospice nurse answers every hour. Ask anything; nothing is decided until you're ready.
