The cover story

Recovery on the coast looks like this.

Most of our patients didn't come home from the hospital to sit. They came home to walk the seawall again, to get back to the Thursday fish fry at church, to see the grandkids in Flour Bluff. Rosalinda Guerra built Oso Bay around that idea in 1996: ask people what they want to get back to, then build the care plan to get them there.

Thirty years later we're a team of fifty nurses, therapists and aides across the Coastal Bend. More than half of us speak Spanish at home. We know that hurricane season means extra supplies before August, and that a patient in Port Aransas needs a nurse who doesn't mind the ferry.

Getting better should look like the life you had before: the seawall at sunset, Sunday dinner with the family, a line in the water. That's the goal of every visit.
