Good to know
Questions, answered
What does 'low-stimulation' mean?
It means we remove the noise and clutter that overwhelm people with dementia: no overhead pages, no hallway TVs, soft floors, warm evening light and small rooms. Residents still have music, company and things to do; they just choose them.
Isn't it lonely if it's so quiet?
Not at all. Quiet doesn't mean empty. Each wing has its own sitting room, and caregivers spend their time with residents instead of at a nurses' station.
How do you handle sundowning?
We plan the late afternoon carefully: lamps on early, a warm drink, familiar music at low volume, a hand massage or a short walk. Most residents settle without extra medication.
Is Quarry House secure?
Yes. Doors are coded and alarmed, and the courtyard is walled. Residents can move freely and safely indoors and out.
How is memory care paid for?
Most families pay privately or with long-term care insurance. Medicare covers doctor visits and therapy but not room and board. Veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for VA pension benefits, and some Texans qualify for Medicaid STAR+PLUS waiver services. Our social worker can walk you through it.
Can we bring furniture from home?
Please do. A familiar chair, quilt, lamp and photographs make a room feel like home from the first night.
What happens if needs increase?
We update the care plan and coordinate hospice when the time comes, so most residents never move again.
Can families visit in the evening?
Any time. We just ask that voices stay low after eight.
Do residents ever leave the house?
Yes, with family any time, and on small, calm outings with staff, like a drive to see the wildflowers in spring.
Is massage safe for older adults?
Our therapist is licensed and trained in gentle comfort massage. We check with each resident's doctor first and adjust for skin, circulation and preference.
What about residents who love television?
They can watch in their own rooms or the sitting room, by choice and at a reasonable volume.
How many residents live in each wing?
Eight. Small wings mean fewer people, less noise and caregivers who know each person well.
Do you allow pets to visit?
Calm, vaccinated family pets are welcome to visit. Just let the front desk know.
How will we stay informed?
Our nurse calls whenever anything changes, and you'll get a short note each week.

Come hear how quiet it is.
Call or text Anneliese to set a time. Most families say the silence is the first thing they notice.
