Good to know

Questions, answered

Does every resident have to be photographed?

No. The portrait is offered, never required. Families decide whether it hangs in the hall, in the resident's room or stays private.

Is Sable House secure?

Yes. Doors are coded and alarmed, and the courtyard is walled. Residents can walk freely indoors and out.

How is memory care paid for?

Most families pay privately or with long-term care insurance. Medicare covers doctor visits and therapy but not room and board. Veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for VA pension benefits, and some Kansans qualify for KanCare waiver services. Our social worker can walk you through it.

How do you handle agitation without heavy medication?

We start with the person: hunger, pain, noise, boredom, the time of day. Most hard moments ease with routine, music, a walk or a familiar face. When medication is needed, our nurse and physician use the least that works and review it often.

Can we bring furniture?

Please do. A familiar chair, bedding and family photographs help a room feel like home from the first night.

What happens when needs increase?

We update the care plan and coordinate hospice when it's time, so most residents never move again.

When can families visit?

Any time. Sunday supper and portrait evenings are especially good times to come.

Can we take Mom out for the day?

Of course. Sign out at the front desk and let us know about meals and medications.
