Good to know
Questions, answered
Is this assisted living?
No. Salado Creek Commons is independent living. You live in your own home and come and go as you like. If you ever need help with daily care, licensed home health or private-duty agencies can visit you here, and we'll help you find a good one.
Does Medicare or Medicaid pay for independent living?
No. Independent living is paid privately, month to month. Medicare still covers your doctor visits, hospital stays and home health services if you qualify, the same as it would anywhere else.
Do I have to be an artist?
Not at all. About half our residents never touch the studio, and that's fine. They come for the creek, the dining room and the neighbors.
Is there an entrance fee?
No. We charge one monthly fee on a one-year lease, with a refundable deposit at move-in.
Can I bring my kiln, loom or press?
Usually, yes, as long as it's safe for the building. Talk with Lupe before you move; we've found room for a twelve-foot loom before.
Can my grandkids come paint with me?
Please bring them. The studio has a kids' table and a drawer full of washable paint.

Bring a sketchbook. Stay for lunch.
Call Lupe or book a time online. Thursday is open studio, and the coffee is strong.
