Recovering close to home shouldn't be rare out here.

Southwest Kansas is big country. When someone from Liberal, Garden City or Ulysses has a hip replaced in Wichita, the next question is where they'll spend the two or three weeks after. For a long time the answer was a rehab center four hours from their family.

We built Sandhill Plum in 2003 so that answer could be Dodge City. Our therapists speak English and Spanish, our nurses come from the towns our patients do, and our gym was built for the life people go home to: farm trucks, feedlots, grain elevators and kitchens full of grandchildren.

Our story

Back issues

In 2002 patients from southwest Kansas were sent to rehab centers in Wichita, Hays or Amarillo. Families drove hundreds of miles a week, and many patients came home weaker than they should have.
