Chapter 01

Four hours away

In 2002 patients from southwest Kansas were sent to rehab centers in Wichita, Hays or Amarillo. Families drove hundreds of miles a week, and many patients came home weaker than they should have.

Chapter 02

Built in Dodge City

Sandhill Plum opened in 2003 next to the medical center, with 40 suites and a therapy gym designed by a physical therapist who grew up on a wheat farm.

Chapter 03

Two languages

By 2008 a third of our patients spoke Spanish at home. We hired and trained a bilingual therapy team so every patient could learn in the language they think in.

Chapter 04

The return-to-work course

In 2014 we built an outdoor course with gravel, a gate and a truck step, because going home out here usually means going back to work.

Chapter 05

Today

Fifty-six suites, nine counties, and most patients home in about seventeen days, closer to family than they would have been.

  • 56private rehab suites
  • 17average days to home
  • 9counties we serve
  • 2languages on every hall
