Questions we hear on the porch
What's the difference between assisted living and a nursing home?
Assisted living is for people who want their own apartment and some help with daily things like bathing, dressing and medications. A nursing home provides 24-hour skilled nursing care. Our nurse can help you decide which fits.
How much does it cost?
Your monthly rate is a base rent for the apartment, meals and housekeeping, plus a care level set after a free assessment. We put the whole number in writing at your first visit.
Does Medicare pay for assisted living?
No. Medicare does not cover rent or personal care in assisted living, though it may cover doctor visits, therapy and some medical supplies. Most families pay privately, with help from long-term care insurance or VA benefits.
Do you accept Medicaid?
Kansas offers some Medicaid waiver help for assisted living through KanCare for people who qualify. Ask our office about current availability and how the application works.
Can I bring my own furniture?
Please do. Most residents bring their bed, favorite chair, dresser and pictures. Jenna will help you plan what fits.
Can couples live together?
Yes. Couples often choose a one- or two-bedroom apartment, and each person has their own care plan.
What happens if my needs change?
Our nurse reassesses whenever care needs change and adjusts the care level. If someone needs more than assisted living can safely provide, we help the family plan the next step.
Can I keep my car?
Yes, if you are still driving safely. Parking is free, and our van is there for the days you'd rather not drive.
Are pets allowed?
Cats and small dogs are welcome with a deposit, as long as the resident can care for them, with a little help if needed.
Is there a nurse at night?
Caregivers are awake all night, and a nurse is on call by phone after hours and comes in when needed.
Can my family stay for meals?
Any time. There is a small charge for guest meals, and Sunday dinner fills up, so call ahead.
Do you offer short-term stays?
Yes. Furnished respite apartments are available for a week or longer, depending on availability.
Do VA benefits help?
The VA Aid and Attendance pension can help eligible veterans and surviving spouses pay for assisted living. Our office can point you to a local veterans service officer.
