Good to know

What families want to know

What is an adult day program?

A daytime place for older adults who live at home but should not spend the day alone. Members come for the hours you choose, with care, meals and company, and go home every afternoon.

Who is a good fit for Sweetgum House?

Adults who need a little help and a lot of company: people living with early or middle-stage dementia, recovering from a stroke, managing diabetes or Parkinson's, or simply lonely at home. Celeste visits your home first.

How do families pay?

Privately by the day, or through VA benefits, long-term care insurance or a Texas Medicaid program for those who qualify. Medicare generally does not cover adult day. We'll help you check.

Is a nurse there all day?

Yes. A licensed nurse is in the house every hour we are open.

Is the old house accessible?

Yes. We added a ramp, widened doorways and built an accessible bath when we restored it.

How many days a week can Mom come?

Anywhere from two to five. Most families start with two and add days once their member settles in.

Do you take members who use a wheelchair?

Yes. The van has a lift and the whole first floor is level.

What should Dad bring?

A list of his medicines, a sweater and his glasses. If he likes to dress up, he'll fit right in.

What if something happens during the day?

Our nurse checks right away and we call you. In an emergency we call 911 first.

Can we try a day first?

Of course. Your first visit day is our treat, lunch and the van included.

Lunch is at noon. Your chair is waiting.

Bring your mother or your dad for a visit day, our treat. Call or text Celeste and we'll set it up.
