Good to know

Questions, answered

When is the right time to call hospice?

When a doctor expects the illness to run its course in about six months or less, or when treatment is no longer helping. You can call to ask questions at any point; it commits you to nothing.

What does Medicare cover?

The Medicare hospice benefit covers the care team, medicines, supplies and equipment for the hospice diagnosis, usually with nothing owed. Room and board in a nursing home is not part of the hospice benefit; our social worker can explain the options.

Can Dad stay at his lake house?

Yes. Hospice care happens wherever a person lives: a lake house, an apartment in town, assisted living or a nursing home.

Do we have to give up his regular doctor?

No. His doctor can stay involved and work with our hospice medical director.

Can we stop hospice?

Yes. Hospice is always a choice. Patients can leave hospice and return to treatment at any time, and come back later if they wish.

You don't have to carry this alone.

Call or text with any question. A hospice nurse will answer, and you decide what happens next.
