No. 01 · Two ways to stay

Some patients are here for three weeks. Some are here for years.

Short-stay patients come to us after a new hip, a stroke or a hard hospital stay, and their job is to get strong enough to go home. Our therapists work with them seven days a week in a gym with a practice kitchen, a car door and a flight of real stairs, because that's what home asks of you.

Long-term residents come to stay, and for them we keep the same nurses on the same halls, the same seat at lunch and the same Friday-night domino game in the parlor. Both kinds of stay deserve our best. Terrence Walker has run the building with that rule for fourteen years.
