Good to know

What Lufkin families ask first

Does Medicare cover rehab here?

Original Medicare Part A can cover up to 100 days of skilled nursing and rehab after a qualifying three-day inpatient hospital stay. Days 1 to 20 are fully covered; from day 21 there is a daily coinsurance. Medicare Advantage plans set their own rules, and we check yours before admission.

Can a patient come straight from the hospital?

Yes, and most do. The hospital case manager sends a referral, we review it the same day, and our admissions team meets the family on arrival.

Do you accept Texas Medicaid?

Yes. Texas Medicaid covers long-term nursing facility care for residents who qualify medically and financially. Our social services director helps families apply.

Is there therapy on weekends?

Yes. Therapists work seven days a week, so a Friday admission still starts therapy on Saturday.

How long does a typical rehab stay last?

It depends on the person and the reason for the stay. Many joint-replacement patients go home in two to three weeks; stroke recovery often takes longer. We review progress with the family every week.

Can I tour before a planned surgery?

Please do. Many patients tour two or three weeks ahead and we note their expected discharge date so a rehab suite is ready.

What should I bring for a rehab stay?

Loose clothes you can exercise in, sturdy shoes with backs, glasses, hearing aids, a phone charger and a list of medications. We label and launder clothing.

How do families get updates?

Call the nurses' station any hour. Families also meet with the care team at a care conference within the first week and whenever care changes.

Can residents keep their own doctor?

Often, yes, if the physician visits nursing facilities. Otherwise our medical director and nurse practitioner provide care and keep your doctor informed.

What happens if a resident needs the hospital?

Our nurses call the physician and the family, arrange transport and send the full medical record along. We hold the room when the payer source allows.

When can families visit?

Any time. Evenings and weekends are busy and cheerful, and you are welcome to join a meal.

Do you take VA benefits?

We welcome veterans and help families explore VA benefits. Coverage depends on each veteran's eligibility, so ask our business office to check.

Going home is the plan. Let's start it now.

Call admissions from the hospital and we can usually accept a patient the same day.
