Questions families ask

What is adult day health?

A licensed daytime program with nursing, therapy, meals and activities for adults who live at home but shouldn't be alone all day.

Who is a good fit?

Adults living with dementia, recovering from a stroke or fall, managing diabetes or heart failure, or isolated at home. A nurse visits before the first day.

How do families pay?

Privately by the day, or through VA benefits, long-term care insurance and Oklahoma Medicaid waiver programs for those who qualify. Medicare generally does not cover adult day.

Do you work with tribal elder programs?

Yes. Our social worker coordinates with tribal programs for members who are eligible.

What area do the vans cover?

Craig and Delaware counties, including Vinita, Grove, Jay, Afton and Bluejacket.

Can Mom go to either center?

Yes. Members can switch between Vinita and Grove when it's easier for the family.

Is a nurse there all day?

Yes, at both centers, every hour we're open.

What does a typical day look like?

Van pickup from 7, coffee and the paper, nurse checks, exercise, noon dinner, an afternoon of games, crafts or music, a snack and the ride home by 5:30.

What about members with dementia?

They spend part of the day in our memory care room with staff trained in dementia care, and join everyone for dinner and music.

Can Dad get therapy here?

Yes, with a doctor's order. Our therapist is on site three days a week.

How many days does Mom have to come?

At least two a week. Most families choose three.

Can families eat with us?

Any day. Noon dinner is better with company.

What happens in an emergency?

Our nurse responds right away. We call 911 first if needed, then you.

Can Mom shower here?

Yes, in our shower room with a trained aide.

Do you close for weather?

We follow the local schools and call every family by 6 a.m.

What should Dad bring?

A list of medicines, day-time doses in the pharmacy bottle, a sweater and his glasses.

Do you offer Saturday respite?

Once a month at our Grove center.

Do you support families after a loss?

Yes. Our chaplain visits, and the caregiver group stays open to you.

Can we try a day?

Yes. Your first day is free at either center.

5:00 p.m. See you tomorrow.

Bring your mother or dad for a free day at either center, noon dinner and the van included. Call, text or book online.
