Assisted living · Canyon, Texas

Big sky out the window. Help with the hard parts.

Fifty-eight apartments on the south edge of Canyon, twelve miles from Palo Duro. Caregivers around the clock, a kitchen that fries a respectable steak, and a van that heads for the canyon every Thursday.

Howdy

Independence, with backup.

Most folks who move to Canyon Rim are still running their own show. They want somebody to keep the pills straight, a hand in the shower, and no more driving to Amarillo after dark. They do not want to be fussed over, and we take that seriously.

So you keep your recliner, your pickup if you still drive it, and your seat at First Baptist or the Thursday domino table. We bring three hot meals, clean the bathroom, and check in as often as your care plan says. When the wind takes the patio umbrella again, we fetch that too.

What families tell us

Daddy farmed wheat outside Happy for sixty years. He told me he'd never live anywhere he couldn't see the horizon. His window looks straight west, and he watches every sunset.
Teresa W.Daughter of a resident
The Thursday canyon trip is the highlight of Mom's week. She calls me from the van to tell me what color the walls are that day.
Brian K.Son of a resident
They gave us the monthly price, the care-level price and the deposit, in writing, before we even sat down. No surprises since.
Alicia R.Daughter of a resident
I came for a two-week respite while my daughter had surgery. I stayed. The dominoes crowd is too good to leave.
Harold P.Resident since 2023
Keisha caught Dad's infection early because she noticed he skipped his coffee. That's how well they know him.
Megan S.Daughter of a resident
I live in Denver and worry constantly. Joanna sends me a photo of Mom at least once a week, usually holding a tomato.
Chris L.Son of a resident
My wife has some memory trouble and I don't. They found us a two-bedroom where we can still be together. That's all I wanted.
Walter G.Resident with his wife
The chicken-fried steak is better than the café downtown. I've told the café that.
Bobbie J.Resident since 2021
When Mom's money got tight, Gary sat down with us and walked through her husband's VA benefit. We hadn't known it existed.
Danielle F.Daughter of a resident
Rosa was there the day Mom moved in and the day Mom passed. She came to the funeral. I won't forget that.
Karen M.Daughter of a former resident
Dad was a mechanic. Rick lets him 'supervise' when the van needs work. Dad thinks he's on staff.

Out here we judge a place by whether the coffee is hot, the help shows up, and somebody remembers how you take your eggs. We aim to pass all three every morning.

Our story

How a hay field became home

In 2009 a Canyon family who had driven their own mother to Amarillo every week for her care bought eleven acres of hay field on Rim Rock Road. They wanted a place close to home, with big windows, where nobody had to leave town to be looked after.
