Medication administration and daily health checks
Noon medicines, blood pressure, blood sugar and weight, with a note home every day.
IncludedAdult day center · El Dorado, Arkansas
A licensed adult day center in a 1920s bank across from the square: a nurse on the floor, lunch in the old lobby, music under the coffered ceiling and a van that covers Union County.

How we got here
In 2009 Bernadette Hollins was a nurse at the medical center and her mother, Lucille, was living alone on Mellor Park Avenue with early Alzheimer's. Lucille was safe at night with family, but the days were long and getting dangerous. There was nowhere in town to take her.
So Bernadette and her husband bought the empty bank building on Cedar Street, kept the marble, the vault door and the coffered ceiling, and opened a day center for Lucille and eleven of her friends. Lucille lived to ninety-one and came every weekday. Forty-some members come now.

Sample family reviews
Mama banked at that building for fifty years. Now she goes there every weekday. She says she's 'making a deposit.'
My husband sings bass in the Thursday choir. I hadn't heard him sing since church in the nineties.
Charlene saw Dad's ankles swelling, called his doctor and had me on the phone in ten minutes. They changed his water pill and he's fine.
Angela got our VA benefit approved when I'd given up. Three days a week, covered.
The vault room is the only place my mother is calm in the afternoon. They figured that out in a week.
Roy brings Dad home at 4:45 and walks him all the way to the recliner. Every single day.
Earlene's banana pudding is the reason my father agreed to try it. Three years later he still talks about it.
I own a store on the square. I can see the bank from my window. Knowing Mom is right there changed everything.
Rooms & suites
We kept the marble and the vault door, and built everything else for the people inside.

Marble floors, the old teller counter turned coffee bar, and round tables for lunch under the coffered ceiling.

The old vault, door and all, is now a quiet, calm room for members living with dementia.

The old loan office, with big tables, quilting frames and a window onto Cedar Street.

A roll-in shower and a trained aide, so bath day is one less job at home.
Activities & dining
A sample week. The full calendar goes home on the first of every month.
