Est. 1986 · Hospice for southern Oklahoma
Hospice care at home across five counties of the Cross Timbers, from Healdton oil leases to lake houses on Texoma, by people who have been doing it since 1986.
How it started
In 1986, a public-health nurse named Lorene Pruitt borrowed a desk in the basement of a Main Street church and started visiting the dying at home, because the nearest hospice was ninety miles away. She promised every family the same thing: you will not be alone at night.
Our office has moved twice since then, but the promise hasn't. A Cross Timbers nurse still answers every call, and still drives out when a call isn't enough.
— Ruth Ann Colbert, RN, Executive Director

Daddy worked the Healdton oil field for forty years. Our aide, Shawna, shaved him every morning just the way he liked, and he went out looking like himself.
I thought hospice meant they'd take over our house. Instead they taught me how to care for Mama and then stood right behind me.
Dr. Haney sat on our couch for an hour and answered every question my brothers had. Nobody had ever done that for us.
They held a pinning ceremony for Granddad on the porch, with a flag and a letter of thanks. He saluted from his wheelchair. We all cried.
A year later the grief group is still how I get through Mondays. Those folks understood without my having to explain.
Our team

Executive Director
Ruth Ann started here as a hospice aide while she was in nursing school at Murray State, came back as a nurse, and has run the agency since 2021. She still takes call one night a month.

Hospice Medical Director
A family doctor in Ardmore for thirty years before joining us. He makes house calls and keeps your own doctor in the loop.

Chaplain
Pastored in Lone Grove for twenty-two years. He listens more than he talks, and he knows most of the hymns by heart.
