Chapter 01 — Above Cypress Creek, Wimberley, TX

Memory care · Wimberley, Texas

A year at Cypress Hall, one season at a time.

Cypress Hall is a 40-resident memory care home above Cypress Creek, where the calendar still follows the seasons: bluebonnets in spring, peaches in summer, pecans in fall and a fire in the hearth all winter.

Why the seasons

Time is hard to hold onto. A season is easier.

People living with dementia often lose track of the date. But they rarely lose the feel of a season: the smell of cut grass, the first cold morning, pecans underfoot, the lights going up in December. Those are memories that live in the body, and they come back when the world gives them a reason.

So we built our year around them. We plant in March and pick peaches in July. We gather pecans along the creek in November and string popcorn for the tree in December. Every household has a season table by the front door, and families tell us that when they walk in, they can tell what month it is before anyone says a word.

We believe that even when the date slips away, the seasons stay. So we keep them: planting and picking, gathering and giving, a fire in winter and a porch in summer. A good year is made of good days, and we try to give every resident both.
