Good to know

Questions, answered

What makes Cypress Hall different?

Our year is organized around the seasons, which people with dementia often still feel even when the date is lost. Every household has a season table, a seasonal menu and seasonal work for busy hands.

Is the building secure?

Yes. Doors are coded and alarmed, and the courtyard and creek path are fenced.

How is memory care paid for?

Most families pay privately or with long-term care insurance. Medicare covers doctor visits and therapy but not room and board. Veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for VA pension benefits, and some Texans qualify for Medicaid STAR+PLUS waiver services. Our social worker can help.

How many residents live in each household?

Ten. Four households share the great room, the hearth room and the courtyard.

Can we bring furniture?

Please do. Favorite chairs, quilts and photographs help a room feel like home from the first night.

How do you handle sundowning?

We plan late afternoons carefully: lamps on early, music, a walk or a task, and a familiar caregiver. Most residents settle with routine rather than medication.

Can families join seasonal events?

Always. The four seasonal parties are open to every family, and grandkids are especially welcome.

What happens if needs increase?

We update the care plan and coordinate hospice so most residents never have to move.

Do you offer respite stays?

When a room is available, yes.

Do residents go on outings?

Yes, small staffed outings: wildflower drives, the peach orchards and the Wimberley lights in December.

Can couples live together?

Yes, in our companion suites.

How often will I hear from you?

A weekly letter from the household, a seasonal care conference and a call whenever anything changes.

What about pets?

Calm, vaccinated family pets are welcome to visit. Ask about a resident pet.

Are meals flexible?

Yes. A seasonal menu, a choice at every meal and finger foods for anyone who needs them.

Do you have a chaplain?

Volunteer clergy from several Wimberley congregations lead Sunday chapel and visit on request.

When can we visit?

Any time. Summer evenings on the porch are a favorite.

How do we start?

Call the front desk. We'll set a tour, arrange a nurse visit and walk you through the rest.

Come see what season it is at Cypress Hall.

Call or text the front desk, or ask for Margaret. Tours end with whatever's on the season table: peach cobbler, pecan pie or hot cider.
