Our story

Konza Prairie Hospice began in the basement of a Lutheran church on Poyntz, with a retired nurse and four volunteers who sat with dying neighbors so families could sleep.

The Konza Prairie, just south of town, is one of the last stretches of unplowed tallgrass in the world. Our founders wanted a name that meant something lasting and wild and home.

When deployments surged, we started a military-family program to help soldiers get home in time and to support spouses caring for parents far from their own families.

We moved into a 1920s limestone house with a big kitchen. The Monday grief group has met around that kitchen table ever since.

We've grown to five counties and seventy staff, but we still start every admission at the kitchen table, learning who's in your circle.
