Insurance & payment

Paying for hospice

Most families owe nothing. Our business office checks every plan before care begins.

Medicare

The Medicare hospice benefit covers the care team, medicines, supplies and equipment for the hospice diagnosis, usually at no cost.

KanCare

Kansas Medicaid covers hospice. If your loved one lives in a nursing home on KanCare, room and board stays covered.

VA and TRICARE

Veterans enrolled in VA health care are eligible, and military retirees may have TRICARE for Life. We coordinate both.

Private insurance

Most plans include hospice. We'll verify yours.

Good to know

What families ask

When should we call hospice?

When a doctor expects the illness to run its course in about six months or less, or when treatment is no longer helping. A call commits you to nothing.

Does Medicare pay for hospice?

Yes. The Medicare hospice benefit covers the care team, medicines, equipment and supplies for the hospice diagnosis, usually with nothing owed.

My son is deployed. Can you help him get home?

Our military liaison can help families work with the American Red Cross emergency messaging service and the soldier's command. We can't promise leave, but we know the process.

Do you come to farms outside town?

Yes. We serve five counties and drive the gravel every day.

Can he keep his own doctor?

Yes. His doctor can stay involved and work with our medical director.

What if she gets better?

Some patients do. She can leave hospice and return to treatment at any time, and come back later if needed.

Call when you're ready. Or before.

A hospice nurse answers any hour. Ask anything; nothing is decided until you're ready.
