Good to know

Questions, answered

What is a life plan community?

A community with independent living plus assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing, so residents can stay as their needs change. Residents have priority for every level of care.

What's the difference between your contracts?

A life care contract has a higher entrance fee, and your monthly fee stays largely the same if you need more care. A fee-for-service contract has a lower entrance fee, and you pay current rates for higher levels of care.

Is the entrance fee refundable?

Depending on the plan, part of the entrance fee may be refundable to you or your estate. Your agreement spells out how much and when.

Does Medicare pay for any of this?

Medicare doesn't cover independent living, assisted living or long-term custodial care. Original Medicare Part A can cover short-term skilled nursing and rehab after a qualifying inpatient hospital stay.

Can I keep my car?

Yes. Every apartment includes a garage space, and valet is available daily.

The lake's two blocks away. So is your next chapter.
