Good to know

Questions, answered

Do you only serve veterans?

No. About seventy percent of our residents are veterans or military spouses, but we welcome everyone living with dementia.

Does the VA pay for memory care?

The VA does not usually pay a memory care home's monthly rate directly. Wartime veterans and surviving spouses who qualify may receive a pension with Aid and Attendance that helps cover the cost. Our business office will help you apply.

Do you accept TRICARE?

TRICARE for Life works alongside Medicare for doctor visits, therapy and prescriptions. Like Medicare, it does not cover room and board in memory care.

What about Medicaid?

Some Oklahomans qualify for the state's ADvantage waiver for assisted living services. Ask our business office about current availability.

How do you handle flashbacks or combat stress?

Our caregivers are trained to recognize it, stay calm, avoid triggers and reassure. We learn each veteran's history before move-in and coordinate with VA mental health providers when needed.

Is the building secure?

Yes. Doors are coded and alarmed, and the courtyard is fully enclosed.

Can we bring medals and memorabilia?

Please do. Every room has a locked shadow box by the door for medals, patches and photographs.

Can deployed family members stay in touch?

Yes. We schedule video calls seven days a week around your time zone, and a caregiver helps on our end.

Do residents get out to veterans' events?

Yes. Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Armed Forces Day outings are staffed one caregiver to every two residents.

What if needs increase?

We update the care plan and coordinate hospice, including veteran-trained hospice partners, so most residents never move again.

Can spouses live together?

Yes, in our companion suites, even if only one spouse has dementia.

What should we bring on move-in day?

Familiar furniture, bedding, photographs, comfortable clothes with name labels and anything for the shadow box.

When can families visit?

Any time. Morning colors at 0800 is a favorite.

Do you have a chaplain?

Yes, a retired Army chaplain, plus volunteer clergy from several faiths.

How do I stay informed?

Our nurse calls whenever anything changes, and you'll get a short weekly note.

Come meet the folks on the Bluff.

Call or text the front desk, or ask for Colonel Harlan by name. She'll walk you through the house and the VA paperwork.
