Fifty years on East Main, and still a hometown place.

Neosho River opened in 1972 with twenty beds and a board made up of a banker, a pharmacist and two farm wives who were tired of driving to Emporia to visit their mothers. We have grown a little since then. We have not gotten any less local. Half our staff went to school down the street, and most of our residents can tell you whose granddaughter is bringing their lunch tray.

We care for people recovering from a hospital stay and people who live here for good. Either way, the day starts the same: the Council Grove paper on the front table, coffee in real mugs and somebody arguing about the weather.

Dad farmed outside of town for sixty years. Here, the maintenance man takes him out to look at the wheat every June. Nobody asked him to.
Darla H.Daughter of a resident
After my hip surgery I wanted to go straight home. The therapist came to my house first and made my son move the throw rugs. She was right.
Wilma S.Rehab patient, 2024
My mother's roommate was her high-school bridge partner. They picked right back up where they left off in 1961.
Gary F.Son of a resident
When Mom was dying, they set up a cot so I could stay the night, and the night nurse brought me coffee at three in the morning. I will not forget that.
Sherri L.Daughter of a former resident
I live in Wichita. The charge nurse texts me a photo every Friday. It's usually Grandpa winning at pitch.
