Our story

A German stonemason built a two-story limestone house on the east end of Main Street, with walls two feet thick and a porch facing west. It held three generations of his family.
After the family moved to the country, the house took in boarders: schoolteachers, a widowed rancher, a fiddler who played on the porch every evening.
A local family bought the house, restored the stone and built the east wing behind it to the same lines. Pedernales House opened as licensed assisted living with twenty-two apartments.
Lucía Marquez-Weber took over and moved the evening schedule to the center of everything. The first Tuesday music night drew four residents. Now the parlor is full.
Fifty-four apartments, five music nights, a telescope on the back lawn and a night shift that has kept the same faces for years.
