From the administrator

We measure success in front porches.

Nearly everyone who comes to Rock Creek arrives from a hospital in Ada, Ardmore or Oklahoma City: a new knee, a broken hip, a stroke, a long bout of pneumonia. On the first day our therapists ask the same question: what does home look like? Three steps up to the porch, a tub with a high side, a pickup with a tall cab. Then we practice exactly that.

Sulphur has been a place people come to get better for more than a century, back to the old mineral baths downtown. We put a warm-water pool in our therapy wing for the same reason. Water takes the weight off a new joint, and patients take their first unassisted steps there days sooner than they would on dry land.

Notes from patients and families

I had a new knee and a ranch to get back to. They had me climbing into a pickup cab in week two. I was feeding cattle by week four.

Mom was scared of the pool. By the end of her first week she was asking for it by name. She walked into her own kitchen nineteen days after her hip surgery.
Lorena P.Daughter of a rehab patient
The therapist came out to our house in Davis and told us to move the rug and raise the recliner four inches. Small things. They made all the difference.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Does Medicare cover a rehab stay here?

Original Medicare Part A covers skilled nursing and rehab for up to 100 days per benefit period after a qualifying inpatient hospital stay, as long as you need daily skilled care. Days 1 to 20 are covered in full; from day 21 there is a daily coinsurance. Medicare Advantage plans set their own rules, so call us and we will check your plan.

Can I choose Rock Creek when I leave the hospital?

Yes. You have the right to choose your rehab provider. Tell your hospital case manager you would like to come here, and call us so we can start the referral the same day.

How long will I stay?

It depends on your surgery or illness and how quickly you get stronger. Most of our patients go home in two to four weeks. We review progress with you and your family every week.

Do I need to know how to swim to use the pool?

No. The pool is chest-deep at most, with a ramp and handrails, and a therapist is in the water with you for every session.

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothes you can exercise in, sturdy shoes with backs, your glasses and hearing aids, and a list of your medications. We do the laundry.
