Good to know

Questions families ask first

What is adult day health?

A licensed daytime program with nursing, therapy, meals and activities for adults who live at home but shouldn't be alone all day. Members go home every evening.

Who is a good fit?

Adults living with dementia, recovering from a stroke or surgery, managing diabetes, heart failure or COPD, or isolated at home. Our nurse visits before the first day.

How do families pay?

Privately by the day, or through VA benefits, long-term care insurance and Kansas Medicaid waiver programs for those who qualify. Medicare generally does not cover adult day. Our social worker helps you check.

What towns do the vans cover?

Newton, North Newton, Hesston, Halstead, Walton, Sedgwick, Burrton, Burns and the farms between.

How late are you open?

Until 6 p.m. on weekdays, plus Saturday respite on the first and third Saturdays.

Is there a separate program for dementia?

Yes. Our memory care neighborhood has its own room and staff trained in dementia care. Members join the main floor for meals and music when they enjoy it.

Can Dad do therapy at Sunflower?

Yes, with a doctor's order. Our therapists are on site Monday through Thursday.

How many days does Mom need to come?

Two days a week at least, so she gets to know her table. Most families choose three to five.

Do members really cook?

Yes, on kitchen days, at accessible counters with our kitchen staff. Everyone can help, whether that's rolling verenika or just tasting.

What happens in an emergency?

Our nurses respond right away. We call 911 first if needed, then you.

Can Mom shower at the center?

Yes, in our shower suite with a trained aide.

Do you close for snow?

We follow the Newton schools and call every family by 6 a.m. if we close.

Is the old hardware store accessible?

Yes. Level floors, wide aisles, a ramp entrance and accessible restrooms throughout.

Can family members visit during the day?

Any time. Stay for lunch, too.

What does my dad need to bring?

A list of medicines, day-time doses in the pharmacy bottle, a change of clothes and his glasses.

Can we try it first?

Yes. Your first day is free, lunch and the van included.

Lunch is at noon. There's always room.

Come for a tour, or bring your parent for a free day with lunch and the van. Call, text or book online.
