Strength, walking and balance on real stairs, curbs, ramps and outdoor paths.
Medicare Part A
Short-term rehabilitation · Overland Park, Kansas
A short-stay rehab center built around daylight, quiet and hard work: private suites, therapy twice a day and a team that plans the trip home before you've unpacked.
Chapter one
Most rehab centers are nursing homes with a gym added on. Tomahawk Creek was designed for one thing: getting people home after a hospital stay. The hallways are short. The windows are big. The therapy gym sits at the center of the building, not the basement, with a full practice apartment, a car, a curb and a set of stairs that match the ones in most Johnson County split-levels.
Our patients come from Menorah, Overland Park Regional, Saint Luke's and KU Med after joint replacements, spine surgery, strokes and heart procedures. They stay in private suites, eat food that tastes like food, and work with therapists who measure progress every week and share it with the family.

Rooms & suites
Every short-stay patient has a private suite. Four layouts, depending on what your recovery needs.

Our standard suite: a quiet room with a big window, a recliner for family and a walk-in shower with a fold-down seat.

Ground-floor suites opening onto the courtyard, so the walk to fresh air is part of therapy.

For longer recoveries after stroke or complex surgery, with a sitting area and space for a wheelchair to turn.

Wider doors, a reinforced bed and equipment rated for larger patients, with the same privacy and comfort.

Sample family reviews
It doesn't feel like a nursing home because it isn't one. Private room, good food, therapy twice a day. I went home walking in sixteen days.
The stairs in the gym are the same height as the stairs in our split-level. That's not an accident. They asked.
After my stroke I couldn't button a shirt. Jenny had me buttoning, cooking eggs and folding laundry before I left.
We got a written plan on day two and a progress update every Thursday. That's all we wanted.
My mother is ninety-one. Nobody here treated her like she was too old to get better. She went home.
Marcus figured out my Medicare Advantage paperwork in an afternoon. I'd been on hold with them for a week.
I did my outpatient therapy here after I went home, with the same therapist. That continuity mattered.
