Adult day club · New Braunfels & San Marcos

Coffee at three. Company all day.

Comal Street is an adult day club in two old Hill Country storefronts, one in New Braunfels and one in San Marcos. A nurse on site, lunch from scratch, music, games and the best part of the day: Kaffeeklatsch at three o'clock.

Our tradition

Every afternoon, the whole room stops for coffee.

Gretchen Voigt-Salazar grew up in New Braunfels in a family where everything stopped at three for coffee and cake. As a home health nurse she watched that ritual disappear for her patients: no cake, no company, nobody to sit down with.

In 2008 she opened Comal Street in an old dry-goods store two blocks off the plaza, and in 2019 a second club in San Marcos. The day has nursing care, lunch, music and games, but members will tell you the real reason they come: at three o'clock, everyone sits down together.

My mother's whole life stopped at three for coffee. At Comal Street it still does. She's herself at that table.

When Dad passed, Pastor Ellen came to the house and the club sent a cake. Of course they did.

Our grandparents had it right: every afternoon, stop what you're doing, pour a cup, cut the cake and sit down with the people around you.
