Good to know

Questions families ask

What is an adult day club?

A daytime place for older adults who live at home but shouldn't spend the day alone. Members get care, meals and company, and go home every afternoon.

What is Kaffeeklatsch?

Coffee and cake at three, every day, with everyone at one table. It's an old Hill Country tradition and our favorite part of the day.

Who is a good fit?

Adults living with memory loss, recovering from a stroke or fall, managing diabetes, or lonely at home. A nurse visits before the first day.

How do families pay?

Privately by the day, or through VA benefits, long-term care insurance and Texas Medicaid programs for those who qualify. Medicare generally does not cover adult day.

Can Mom go to either club?

Yes. Members can switch between New Braunfels and San Marcos when it's easier for the family.

Is a nurse at each club?

Yes, every hour each club is open.

What area do the vans cover?

Comal and Hays counties, including Canyon Lake, Kyle and Wimberley. Ask about Seguin.

Do you serve diabetic cake?

Yes. There's always a sugar-free option at Kaffeeklatsch.

Do you have bilingual staff?

Yes, at both clubs, in English and Spanish, and a German conversation table on Tuesdays.

What about members with dementia?

They spend part of the day in the quiet room with staff trained in dementia care and join everyone for lunch and coffee.

How many days can Dad come?

Two to five. Most families start with two.

Can members help in the kitchen?

Yes, at accessible counters with our cooks. Wednesday's cake is entirely theirs.

What happens in an emergency?

Our nurse responds right away. We call 911 first if needed, then you.

Can Mom shower at the club?

Yes, in our shower room with a trained aide.

Can families join Kaffeeklatsch?

Any afternoon. Pull up a chair.

Do you close for weather?

We follow the local school districts and call every family by 6:30 a.m.

What should Dad bring?

A list of medicines, noon doses in the pharmacy bottle, a sweater and his glasses.

Do you support families after a loss?

Yes. Our chaplain visits and the caregiver group stays open to you.

Can we try a day?

Yes. The first day is free at either club, lunch and the van included.

Three o'clock. There's a chair for you.

Come for Kaffeeklatsch, or bring your parent for a free day at either club, lunch and the van included.
