Assisted living & memory care · Manhattan, Junction City & Council Grove, Kansas

Room to breathe in the Flint Hills.

Three assisted living homes on the edge of the tallgrass prairie, each with caregivers awake around the clock, a small memory care neighborhood, and a kitchen that still bakes its own bread.

Why we're here

Good care should not mean leaving the place you love.

Most of the people who live with us grew up within forty miles of where they sleep tonight. They taught school in Wamego, ranched south of Alma, served at Fort Riley or worked thirty years at the university. When the house got to be too much, they did not want to move to a city they didn't know. Neither did their families.

So since 1997 we have built small: three homes, about fifty apartments each, in the three towns our families asked for. Each has the same standards, the same training and the same people to call. And each looks out on a lot of sky.

Families across the Flint Hills

Dad ranched south of Council Grove for sixty years. From his window he can see the same hills. He says it's the only reason he agreed to move, and I believe him.
Jill E.Daughter of a resident, Council Grove
Monique helped us get Dad's Aid and Attendance approved in four months. She knew which forms the VA would kick back before we sent them.
Marcus T.Son of a veteran resident, Junction City
Mom taught first grade for thirty-four years. The memory care team gives her a reading circle every morning. She still corrects their grammar.
Allison K.Daughter of a memory care resident
The therapy pool got me walking again after my knee. I'm back to the walking club and I lead the pace now.
Doris H.Resident, Manhattan
Everything was on one sheet of paper before we signed. Two years in, the bill has never had a surprise on it.
Brian S.Son of a resident
I live in Seattle. Tasha sends me a photo every Friday. Last week it was Mom holding a tomato the size of a softball.
Kristin O.Daughter of a resident
My husband is in memory care and I'm in assisted living, same building. I have lunch with him every day.
Joyce R.Resident, Manhattan
The bread. I don't know what else to say. The bread.
Lowell P.Resident, Junction City
Karen called me at six in the morning because Dad seemed off. By noon he was on antibiotics, and he never went to the hospital.
Teresa V.Daughter of a resident
They took Mom on the spring burn drive. She talked about the fire lines on the hills for a week.
Greg W.Son of a resident, Council Grove
Dad is a retired professor. They found him a seat at the lecture series and a ride every week. He feels like himself.
Eleanor M.Daughter of a resident, Manhattan
When Mom passed, Pastor Lind sat with us half the night. The caregivers came to the funeral. That is who these people are.

Our story

From one home on Konza Ridge to three

Ron and Linda Pratt opened the first home west of Manhattan after watching Linda's father move two hours away for care. Forty-eight apartments, a big front porch and a view of the hills.

Out here neighbors still check on each other. We just made it our whole job: someone awake all night, someone who knows your name, and the prairie right outside the window.
