Chapter 01 — South of Sailboat Bridge, Grove, OK
Senior living on Grand Lake · Grove, Oklahoma
Cottages, apartments and assisted living on a wooded point of Grand Lake, with a marina, a dining room that faces west and sister communities on three more Oklahoma lakes.
Chapter one
Harbor Point started in 1989 as twelve cottages on a point that used to be a fishing camp. The bait shop is now our welcome center, and the old fish-cleaning station is a screened porch where the coffee club meets at seven.
Today about three hundred people live here, on Grand Lake and at our sister communities on Tenkiller, Fort Gibson and Eufaula. Most came for the water. They stay for the neighbors, the sunset suppers and the comfort of knowing that if they ever need a hand, the help is already down the hall.
— Caroline Haddox, executive director

We think a good retirement looks a lot like a good summer at the lake: early coffee, long porches, friends at supper and someone keeping an eye on the weather.

Dad wanted a boat slip more than a second bedroom. He got both, and he's out on the water four mornings a week at eighty-three.
We spent thirty summers renting cabins on Grand Lake. Now we just live here, and somebody else fixes the dock.
When Mom needed help with her pills and her showers, she moved two hundred yards to The Lighthouse. Same coffee club, same chaplain, same view of the lake.
Rosa called me before the doctor did. That's the kind of place this is.
I came for a two-week respite stay after my knee. I signed a lease on day nine.
My grandkids think Grandpa lives at summer camp. Honestly, they aren't wrong.
Our kids moved to Tahlequah, so we transferred to the Tenkiller community. Nobody made us start over. They had our care notes and our favorite table ready.
The sunset cruise is the best part of my week. Gary tells the same jokes every time and we laugh every time.
Danielle helped us understand the VA pension and long-term care policy line by line. No surprises on the bill, ever.
I was a Navy man. I didn't expect to find a crew again at ninety. I did.
Mom's book club picked a six-hundred-page novel and finished it in a month. I've been reading the same paperback since June.
Every Friday in summer there's music on the deck and the whole point turns up. It feels like the lake towns we grew up in.

Visit
A nurse is on the point around the clock. Families can visit at any hour; after 9 p.m. use the call box at the welcome center.

Walk the docks at six, eat supper on the west deck and see why people move here for the water and stay for each other. Call or text Lauren to save a seat.
