Good to know

Questions, answered

What kind of community is Harbor Point?

Independent living in cottages and apartments, with assisted living at The Lighthouse on the same campus. We do not offer skilled nursing or a secured memory care unit, but our team will help you find one nearby if that need arises.

Is there an entrance fee?

No. You pay a monthly fee on an annual lease. Assisted living adds a care level set by a nurse's assessment.

What's included in the monthly fee?

Supper daily, housekeeping, utilities, Wi-Fi, maintenance, transportation, programs and the pontoon cruises. The full list is on our Life on the point page and in your lease.

Can I bring my boat?

Yes. Our marina has forty-six slips, and residents get first choice. There is a monthly slip fee. Gary, our harbor master, keeps a waiting list for the covered ones.

Do I need to know how to swim to live on the lake?

Not at all. Plenty of residents never set foot on a boat. Life jackets are required on every cruise and kayak outing.

Does Medicare pay for senior living?

Medicare does not pay rent or assisted living. It does cover the outpatient therapy we offer on campus and home health or hospice care your doctor orders.

Can Medicaid help pay for assisted living?

In Oklahoma, some people qualify for help through a Medicaid waiver program. Openings and rules change, so ask our social worker to walk you through it.

Do you take VA benefits?

Eligible veterans and surviving spouses may receive the VA Aid and Attendance pension, which can help pay for assisted living. We help with the paperwork.

Are there nurses on site?

Yes. A licensed nurse is on the point around the clock, based at The Lighthouse.

What happens if my health changes?

Our nurse reassesses, we meet with you and your family, and we update the plan. Many residents move from a cottage to The Lighthouse without leaving the campus.

Can I move between your lake communities?

Yes. If your family is closer to Tenkiller, Fort Gibson or Eufaula, we'll transfer your records and help you move, with no new application fee.

Are pets allowed?

Dogs under forty pounds and cats are welcome in cottages and apartments, with a one-time pet fee.

What is the food like?

Lake-country cooking with a fresh menu every day: grilled fish, garden salads, Sunday pot roast and Maribel's pies. Diabetic and heart-healthy choices are always available.

Can family stay overnight?

Yes. We have two guest suites that book by the night. Summer weekends fill early.

Can my family visit any time?

Yes, any day and any hour. After 9 p.m., use the call box at the welcome center.

How far is the nearest hospital?

Grove has a hospital about ten minutes away, and larger hospitals in Joplin and Tulsa are about an hour's drive.

Do you offer short stays?

Yes. Respite stays in a furnished suite run from a week to a month, with meals and assisted living care included.

What happens in winter?

The lake gets quiet and the calendar gets busy: the indoor pool, college classes, the woodshop, holiday concerts and the piano in the lounge.

Is there a waiting list?

For lakeside cottages, usually. A refundable deposit holds your place, and apartments often open sooner.

How do I schedule a tour?

Call or text (918) 555-0185 or book online. Friday sunset tours include supper on the west deck.

Come for a sunset tour on Friday.

Walk the docks at six, eat supper on the west deck and see why people move here for the water and stay for each other. Call or text Lauren to save a seat.
