Our story

How a fishing camp became home

A grandfather teaching his granddaughter to fish at sunset
A resident at the helm of his sailboat
Residents launching kayaks from the swim dock
A sailboat tied at the old wooden pier on a gray morning
Two residents sharing a picnic on the dock beside their sailboat
A resident fishing from the bank in the north cove
Chapter 01

A fishing camp on the point

In the 1950s this point was a fishing camp with a bait shop, a gas pump and eleven rental cabins. Our founders, a retired doctor from Vinita and a schoolteacher from Grove, bought it in 1987 with the idea that lake people deserved a place to grow old by the water.

Chapter 02

The first twelve cottages

The first cottages opened in the spring of 1989, built on the old cabin sites so nobody had to cut the big oaks. The bait shop became the welcome center. The scale where fishermen weighed their catch still hangs by the door.

Chapter 03

The lodge and the marina

In 1997 residents asked for a dining room with a view and a place to keep their boats. We built the lodge facing west and rebuilt the old camp docks into a forty-six-slip marina.

Chapter 04

The Lighthouse

By 2006 some of our first residents needed more help. Rather than send them away, we opened The Lighthouse, a thirty-two-suite assisted living building two hundred yards down the shore.

Chapter 05

Three more lakes

Families from Tahlequah, Wagoner and Eufaula kept calling. We opened Harbor Point at Tenkiller in 2012, Fort Gibson in 2016 and Eufaula in 2021, each on the water and each run the same way.

Chapter 06

Still on the point

Caroline Haddox has led Harbor Point since 2011. The coffee club still meets at seven, the bait-shop scale still hangs by the door and the sunset still lands right at the end of C dock.

Come for a sunset tour on Friday.

Walk the docks at six, eat supper on the west deck and see why people move here for the water and stay for each other. Call or text Lauren to save a seat.
