Rehab & recovery · North of the medical center, Altus, OK
North Fork is a short-stay rehabilitation center in Altus with 52 private suites, therapy six days a week, nurses around the clock and one goal for every patient: going home.
Day one
Most patients come to us three or four days after a hip or knee replacement, a stroke, a fall or a long hospital stay. You're sore, you haven't slept, and you're wondering if you'll ever get back to your own kitchen. Within a few hours you'll meet your nurse, your therapists and your case manager, and before the end of the second day you'll have a written plan with a target date for going home.
We've been doing this in Altus since 1998, for farmers and ranchers, teachers and retired Air Force families from all over southwest Oklahoma. The building has changed a lot since then. The plan hasn't: get strong, get safe, get home.
— Victor Salinas, administrator

Day one, you can barely sit up. Day eighteen, you walk out the front door. Everything between is work, and we do it with you.

Rooms & suites
A private suite for rest, and the rooms where the real work happens.

A hospital-grade bed, a recliner for visitors, a private bath with a roll-in shower and a window.

A larger suite with a sitting area, for longer stays and family who stay late.

Parallel bars, a practice staircase, treatment tables and the truck-cab trainer.

A full kitchen, laundry and bathroom to rehearse going home.

Gravel, grass, curbs and a ramp, so the first walk at home isn't the first walk on gravel.

Sample family reviews
I farm cotton north of town. The therapists had me climbing into a truck cab before I went home. That's what I needed to know I could do.
My husband couldn't say my name after his stroke. Aaron worked with him every day. On day sixteen he said it.
Teresa handled TRICARE and Medicare without me having to make a single call.
They gave Mom a date on day two. She went home on that date.
Marisol came to Dad's house and found three things that would have put him back in the hospital. We fixed them before he got home.
The gravel path sounds like nothing. It's not nothing when you live on a gravel road.
I came here after my knee replacement and again for my other knee a year later. Same therapist, same results.
The nurses caught an infection early and started IV antibiotics right here. Mom never went back to the hospital.
Recovering forty minutes from home instead of two hours made all the difference for my family.
I'm a stubborn old man. They were more stubborn. I'm walking.
