Good to know
Questions, answered
Is Old Main assisted living?
No. We are independent living, for people who handle their own daily care. Licensed home health and private-duty agencies can visit you here if you need help, and our wellness nurse can point you to good ones.
Is there an entrance fee?
No. You pay a monthly fee on a twelve-month lease. There is a one-time community fee at move-in, and Loretta will show you the exact figure in writing before you sign.
Does Medicare pay for living here?
No. Medicare does not cover rent in independent living. Most residents pay privately. Some long-term care insurance policies and the VA Aid and Attendance pension can help with related costs; ask our office.
Can I bring my own furniture?
Please do. Claire will send you a floor plan with measurements and help you decide what fits.
Do I need to give up my car?
Not at all. There is free resident parking and covered spaces for cottage homes. Many residents keep a car and still ride the bus because it's more fun.
What happens if I need more care later?
We help you plan. Home care can come to your apartment, and if you ever need assisted living or nursing care, we help you find a place nearby and keep you in touch with your friends here.
Can family stay overnight?
Yes. Our guest suite on the second floor can be reserved for up to five nights at a modest nightly rate.
Are you affiliated with a church?
We were founded by three downtown churches and are still governed by a not-for-profit board, but residents of every faith and none are welcome. Vespers is optional and so is the cobbler.
How long is the waiting list?
It depends on the floor plan. Studios and one-bedrooms often open within a few months; corner apartments and cottages can take longer. A small refundable deposit holds your place.
