Adult day health · Midland, Texas
Permian Day Health is a licensed adult day health center open fourteen hours a day, six days a week, for families who work the oil field, the hospital and everything in between. Nurses on the floor, therapy, three meals and vans that start running before sunrise.
Why we're open so early
Yvette Ramírez spent fourteen years as a nurse in Midland watching the same thing happen: a son on a drilling rig, a daughter on night shift at the hospital, and a parent at home who wasn't safe alone anymore. Every adult day program in town closed at five. Shifts don't.
In 2014 she opened Permian Day Health in an old oil-field supply warehouse on Big Spring Street, with a nurses' station in the middle, a kitchen that cooks three meals, a shower suite, a therapy gym and vans that leave at 5:30 a.m. Today seventy-some members come through on a busy day: retired roughnecks and landmen, teachers, nurses, ranchers and grandmothers who still make the best tamales in West Texas.

Nobody should have to choose between keeping a job and keeping Mom safe. We set our hours by the shift schedule so families don't have to.

Rooms & suites
One big open floor, and rooms built for the parts of the day that need them.

Seven thousand square feet of open, daylit space with a nurses' station in the middle, a stage and a taped walking track.

Parallel bars, practice stairs and treatment tables, Monday through Friday.

A smaller, calmer room with its own staff, music and a door to the shade garden.

Recliners and dim light for naps on long days.

Two roll-in showers and trained aides, so bath day is one less job at home.
Sample family reviews
I work fourteen and seven on a rig in Reeves County. Permian is the only reason Mama can stay in her own house.
I'm a night-shift nurse. I drop Dad at 6:15 on the way home and pick him up after I sleep. He eats three meals there. He's gained back the weight he lost.
My husband was a pumper for thirty-five years. He and Earl rebuilt a generator at the shop bench. It runs better than mine.
Marcus noticed Mom's oxygen was dropping at lunch and called her pulmonologist. She was seen that afternoon.
Abuela talks with Lupe in the kitchen every Friday about tamales. It's the happiest she gets all week.
Saturday program. That's it. That's the review.
Priya had Dad walking the track without his walker four months after his stroke.
Rosa got Dad's VA benefit approved while I was out on a hitch. I didn't make a single call.
The daily text with a picture of Mom at bingo is the best part of my shift.
My wife has Alzheimer's and doesn't do well in crowds. The memory care room is quiet and Toni is a saint.
I can work overtime again without lying awake about Dad.
