01 · Why Primrose Hill

A hospital saves your life. Rehab gives it back.

Most people come to us three or four days after surgery or a hospital stay, tired, sore and worried about whether they'll get back to the life they had. Our job is to answer that question with a plan: how many days, which therapies, what has to be true before you go home, and who will help when you get there.

We opened in 2011 next to the river walk with a two-story therapy gym, a practice kitchen, a car-transfer simulator and a staircase with real porch steps. Our therapists, nurses and case managers meet about every patient three times a week. Most people go home in two to three weeks.

Sample family reviews

From patients who went home

I had both knees replaced eight weeks apart and came here both times. The second time Marcus had me on the porch steps by day four. I went home on day eleven.

After Dad's stroke, Jenna worked with him every day on swallowing. He went from a feeding tube to Sunday pot roast.
Karen T.Daughter of a rehab patient
The car simulator sounds silly until you're trying to get into a pickup with a new hip. I practiced it three times before my son drove me home.
Roger M.Rehab patient, 2024
Tom gave us a discharge date on day two and they hit it. I could plan my time off around it.
Stephanie W.Daughter of a rehab patient
Priya came to Mom's house before she went home and moved three rugs and a coffee table. Mom hasn't fallen since.

I'm a nurse and I was a terrible patient. They were patient anyway.

Our story

Built for going home

In 2010 the River Valley's hospitals were discharging hip, knee and stroke patients to rehab beds two counties away. Families drove an hour each way, and too many patients came back to the hospital within a month.
