Good to know

Questions about a rehab stay

How long is a typical rehab stay?

Most of our patients go home in two to three weeks. Your case manager sets a target date in the first 72 hours and updates it as you progress.

Does Medicare pay for rehab?

Medicare Part A can cover a skilled nursing and rehab stay after a qualifying inpatient hospital stay of at least three days. The first 20 days are covered in full, then a daily coinsurance applies through day 100, as long as you continue to need skilled care.

What if I have a Medicare Advantage plan?

We work with most Medicare Advantage plans. Many require prior approval, and our admissions team handles that with the hospital before you arrive.

Can I choose Primrose Hill before my surgery?

Yes, and we encourage it. Tour ahead of time and tell your surgeon and hospital case manager. We coordinate directly with them.

How much therapy will I get?

It depends on your plan of care, but most patients have physical, occupational or speech therapy five to six days a week.

Is every room private?

Yes. All 64 short-stay suites are private, with private baths.

Can my family visit?

Any time. We especially encourage family to join a therapy session or two so they learn how to help at home.

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothes you can exercise in, supportive shoes with backs, toiletries, your glasses and hearing aids, and a list of your medications. We'll send a full checklist.

Will I see a doctor?

Yes. Our medical director and nurse practitioners see every patient several times a week, and we keep your own doctors informed.

What happens if I can't go home safely?

We'll talk with you and your family early. Options include home health, assisted living or long-term care on our skilled nursing hall.

Do you handle IV antibiotics?

Yes. Our nurses manage IV antibiotics, IV fluids and PICC lines.

Can I keep my own surgeon or specialist?

Yes. We schedule follow-up appointments and arrange transportation when needed.

What about meals?

Chef-prepared, with choices at every meal, and every therapeutic diet your doctor orders.

Will someone help me after I go home?

We arrange home health or outpatient therapy, order the equipment you need and call you within 48 hours of discharge.

Do you have long-term care too?

Yes, on a separate hall. Medicaid and private pay are accepted for long-term care.

How do I get admitted?

Tell your hospital case manager you'd like Primrose Hill, or call our admissions line seven days a week.

Choose your rehab before the hospital chooses for you.

You have the right to choose where you recover. Tell your hospital case manager you'd like Primrose Hill, or call our admissions team any day of the week.
