Adult day program · Mountain View, Arkansas

Seeds in the morning. Fiddles in the afternoon.

Sylamore is an adult day program in a farmhouse and greenhouse off the courthouse square, for Stone County folks who need a little care and a lot of good company. A nurse on site, dinner at noon and a van home by five.

Our place

A farmhouse, a greenhouse and a front porch that fills up on Thursdays.

Opal Whitmire grew up on a farm on the Sylamore Creek and nursed in Stone County for thirty years. She opened Sylamore in 2009 in her late aunt's farmhouse, two blocks off the square where the pickers gather, and built a greenhouse out back the next spring.

Our members are gardeners and quilters, retired loggers and schoolteachers, and more than a few who can still play a fiddle tune their granddaddy taught them. Mornings are for the greenhouse and the handwork table. Thursday afternoons, the porch fills up with music.

Kind words

Daddy played fiddle at the square every Saturday for fifty years. After his stroke he quit. At Sylamore he picked it back up. Slow, but he plays.

Our story

Through the seasons

Opal's aunt Della left her the farmhouse on Sylamore Avenue in 2008. That winter Opal and her husband built a ramp, widened the doors and put in a bath room.
